Hairstyle Makeover Transformation

You just broke up with your sweetie: you are looking for a new job: you are in a rut: you have worn the same hairstyle since 1992: you want to change your life!

Sometimes you need to make a change, and a hairstyle makeover or a transformation in your hair color is a great place to begin.  And I am not just talking to women here – plenty of you guys should really consider changing up your look – particularly if you have never given it much thought (in fact, if that is the case I STRONGLY urge you to make a change).  You would be amazed at the kind of impact a makeover hairstyle could have on you, how it can transform your life.  Women are pretty smart, and there is a very good reason we do these things.  When you makeover your look – specifically your hair, you transform your attitude, which transforms your confidence, and that can be a life-changing experience.

Knowing you want to make a big change does not mean you know how to do it.  But if you have a great relationship with a very talented, experienced and tasteful hairstylist – one you are comfortable enough to truly express your likes and dislikes, then dare to say – “Go ahead – have at it – do what you will and make my hair look incredible!”  Seriously – take the plunge.  However, and this is very important, communicate as you go!

In other words, DO discuss what he or she might do.  Have a conversation about the length of the hair you might want, the texture you might want, what aspects of your lifestyle are important when it comes to taking too drastic a step (for example, if you work in a conservative office, do not let your stylist shave your head). Don’t be afraid to give ideas, express your dislikes or go against his or her suggestions.   It is your hair. You have seen it in its many incarnations; you know what looks good with your face and the persona you want to project.

At the same time you are asking for THEIR input for a very good reason – because you might always choose the same old look, or because they have knowledge of new techniques that might look great.  So while I am still suggesting that you step outside of your comfort zone here, and let your stylist go to town, cleaning you up and helping you create a new image, do it in a balanced way.  Be clear on what you don’t want, and also about what you have always loved.  Chat about your insecurities and chat about the possibilities for your hair – and then close your eyes, relax, and have some fun!

You don’t have to do anything drastic or permanent to get a big boost from your makeover.  But sometimes discovering how someone else envisions you is inspiring.  You can dip dye or do tone-on-tone color; you can have ombre color or lowlights or highlights or sparkle lights.  You can glaze, do semi-permanent or permanent dyes.

So ask your stylist about the possibilities that are out there for you.

And remember, there is no sense in doing something if you are not going to do it well. Make sure you have a great hairstylist, with whom you communicate well.  Make sure your stylist truly understands your particular hair issues. And then have some fun, take a chance, and transform yourself into the best possible you.

2012 hair color – hot new trends

2012 hair trends are all about color.  Any color you can think of – from bright, bold primaries, to richly textured highlights to teensy little glitter-lights around the face. Choosing your best hair color and your best highlighting style has a lot to do with your hair cut, and your skin tones, but it is also about your personality and lifestyle. Can you walk into a client meeting with a bright pink head of hair and a briefcase and expect them to stay and do business with you?

Here are some of the most interesting trends in 2012 (Warning – do not try this at home without the help of an experienced professional!)

SPARKLE LIGHTS Hot of the presses! This IS the hottest new trend in 2012 – so hot that only a handful of stylists even know how to do it – and so inexpensive that anyone who lives in LA or NY (the only two cities I know of that even have salons that can do it) should run to Cal Martini Color Group in Beverly Hills or Mark Miletti of the Beth Minardi Team in New York City and check it out. It features tiny little highlights around the face that are so bright and light they glitter and sparkle! Fast, fun and very inexpensive!

BRIGHT BEAUTIFUL HAIR COLOR Outrageous colors are becoming more and more mainstream. Colors such as purple, blue, red and green are seeing a strong reemergence in the hair coloring market – in fact, they are no longer even considered that cutting edge. Instead the hottest trend in hair color in 2012 is blending stripes of your choice of all of the crazy colors you have to choose from – peacock blue, bright teal, Pepto Bismol pink, fiery yellow – all mixed up. So you have a lot of bold choices to make. You can do a Katy Perry and just drench your hair in a primary blue (truly her signature color) or you can have some fun with both color and application. Many hair fashionista’s are requesting these daring colors mixed in with browns, blacks, reds and blondes to give them a bolder, more original look.

Artistically applied swatches of hair color that turn your hair into a painting, or carefully applied shades of one color that you then dip dye into another make your hair into a fabulous evening accessory.

GREY LIGHTS However, even more unusual than the big bright bold colors that are all the rage right

Gray Highlights Kate Moss

now, is the new fad for gray highlights. Yep, believe it or not! Trendsetter Kate Moss has been sporting this hot new color choice that has fashion bloggers furiously weighing in on this new look with their opinion. Strangely enough “gray lights’” and white/gray color bases mixed with pale ash tones are gaining traction as a fashion choice – other models and celebrities that are loving this look include Lady Gaga and Jamie Lee Curtis. TONE ON TONE Choosing 5 or six shades that are all somewhere around your base shade, some darker some lighter, some warmer and some cooler is a gorgeous look that pushes the envelope on sizzle and sass in your look without forcing you to change jobs. Beverly Hills Hair Colorist Cal Martini presents Sparkle Lights

Sparkle Lights is the newest, hippest and most inexpensive innovation in highlighting hair!!

One of the biggest problems for a lot of us is just how expensive getting our hair highlighted can be.  This cannot be solved with a do-it-yourself hair highlighting kit, because, as anyone who has tried this knows, bad highlights are even worse than no highlights. But we all love them – they light up our faces, and make our hair color look richer by contrast. Fortunately Beverly Hills Hair Colorist Cal Martini has the answer – Sparkle Lights.

This brand new process is one that only a couple of your better salons even know how to do! It is super inexpensive and yet the impact on your color and your looks is dramatic. It’s called “sparkle lights” because that is what they are – tiny little sparkly highlights delicately added to tiny bits of hair right around your face, creating sparkle, shine and light where you need it most.  If you are lucky enough to live anywhere near Los Angeles you can come to Beverly Hills and have Hair Colorist Cal Martini or one of his superb team of hair specialists, all of whom have been trained in this tricky process, kick up your hair color and light up your hair for around $40.00. I know, that’s crazy cheap.

The process itself requires the expertise of a great haircolorist, because it is all in the application. With his artist’s eye, Cal will place the highlights according to what looks best with your face shape, eye color and skin tone.  The gorgeous results are as permanent as any far more expensive highlighting jobs are.  However, because of the technique involved, it is a very quick process, so you are not paying for all of the time necessary with more traditional methods of highlighting.  So you get the most gorgeous for the money!

You can use this as a fun, quick add-on any number of other hair processes – hair color, hair glazing or more extensive highlighting. It was created to enhance you face and color and works as a stand-alone color treatment or as a part of a more complicated color package.  The Cal Martini Salon in Beverly Hills is the only one ( at least in California) with colorists trained to do Sparkle Lights. The only other salon I know of that does this is in New York (senior hair colorist Mark Miletti ) with the renowned color specialist Beth Minardi.  Just a little something you can do to make the economic depression less depressing!
