Hairstyle Makeover Transformation

You just broke up with your sweetie: you are looking for a new job: you are in a rut: you have worn the same hairstyle since 1992: you want to change your life!

Sometimes you need to make a change, and a hairstyle makeover or a transformation in your hair color is a great place to begin.  And I am not just talking to women here – plenty of you guys should really consider changing up your look – particularly if you have never given it much thought (in fact, if that is the case I STRONGLY urge you to make a change).  You would be amazed at the kind of impact a makeover hairstyle could have on you, how it can transform your life.  Women are pretty smart, and there is a very good reason we do these things.  When you makeover your look – specifically your hair, you transform your attitude, which transforms your confidence, and that can be a life-changing experience.

Knowing you want to make a big change does not mean you know how to do it.  But if you have a great relationship with a very talented, experienced and tasteful hairstylist – one you are comfortable enough to truly express your likes and dislikes, then dare to say – “Go ahead – have at it – do what you will and make my hair look incredible!”  Seriously – take the plunge.  However, and this is very important, communicate as you go!

In other words, DO discuss what he or she might do.  Have a conversation about the length of the hair you might want, the texture you might want, what aspects of your lifestyle are important when it comes to taking too drastic a step (for example, if you work in a conservative office, do not let your stylist shave your head). Don’t be afraid to give ideas, express your dislikes or go against his or her suggestions.   It is your hair. You have seen it in its many incarnations; you know what looks good with your face and the persona you want to project.

At the same time you are asking for THEIR input for a very good reason – because you might always choose the same old look, or because they have knowledge of new techniques that might look great.  So while I am still suggesting that you step outside of your comfort zone here, and let your stylist go to town, cleaning you up and helping you create a new image, do it in a balanced way.  Be clear on what you don’t want, and also about what you have always loved.  Chat about your insecurities and chat about the possibilities for your hair – and then close your eyes, relax, and have some fun!

You don’t have to do anything drastic or permanent to get a big boost from your makeover.  But sometimes discovering how someone else envisions you is inspiring.  You can dip dye or do tone-on-tone color; you can have ombre color or lowlights or highlights or sparkle lights.  You can glaze, do semi-permanent or permanent dyes.

So ask your stylist about the possibilities that are out there for you.

And remember, there is no sense in doing something if you are not going to do it well. Make sure you have a great hairstylist, with whom you communicate well.  Make sure your stylist truly understands your particular hair issues. And then have some fun, take a chance, and transform yourself into the best possible you.
